Dear PHOENIX TN partners, dear colleagues,
summer is going by and the time for our meeting at the Evora Seminar on European Health and Social Welfare Policies coming closer. We are working in the final details to make of our seminar a good occasion to present our contributions, establish solid foundations for the future developments within PHOENIX and get to know each other. We will also try to find a moment to visit Evora, a real museum-city, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, combining Roman remains with Mediaeval, Renaissance and Baroque buildings.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
In the following days you will be individually contacted by Mrs. Helga Gomes de Sá, from Viagens Abreu, SA (evora@abreu.pt), who will inform you in detail on your travel plan to Lisbon, transport from Lisbon Airport to Evora and accommodation once in Evora. Please remember that only those participants coming from partner universities of the PHOENIX network during the period 2001-2002 and presenting a paper or chairing a working group meeting will have their expenses covered by the project. Those who do not actively participate or those participating on behalf of universities which did not sign the first PHOENIX TN application form have already been kindly requested to find other sources of financing for participation. PHOENIX TN cannot pay the expenses of accompanying persons coming with participants from partner universities either. Meals during the seminar will be offered by the organization.
PROGRAMME
Please consult the last version of the programme which is available at the PHOENIX website.
Small details related to the social programme of the seminar are still being added, so it is not the final version yet.
The final distribution of papers within the sessions will be organised after 15 August, when all papers have been received.
You can remember the section you are included in and your section coordinator by having a look at the sections programme. This document only informs about the speaker of each paper and not about the authors. All authors (in case there is more than one) will be included both in the electronical and printed full versions of the conference papers.
CONFERENCE PAPERS
We intend to publish the full length papers before the conference on the home page of PHOENIX TN. This version must not exceed 20 pages and be sent to PHOENIX TN and to the chair of your session before 15 August.
The large number of papers for the seminar requires that you keep your oral presentation within 15 minutes. That represents a maximum of five (5) pages with 30 lines and circa 300 words on each page. You can present your paper in your mother language but papers presented in other languages than English must be accompanied by written English versions to be distributed among participants. They must be sent to PHOENIX TN before 15 September.
Please let us know if you would need audiovisual support for your presentation (data projector, slides projector, transparencies projector). You can send this information together with your full lenght paper to webmaster@phoenixtn.net.
WORKING GROUPS
As it was stated in Bulletin 3, the three PHOENIX working groups -Texts, Pedagogical Materials and Educational Political Recommendations for Ministries and Departments of Education of all EU members, coordinated by Prof. José Armas Castro (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain); Establishing Quality Markers for Health Assistance, coordinated by Prof. Mariapia Viola Magni (Perugia University, Italy) and Health and Socio-Political Recommendations for the European Union Governments, coordinated by Prof. Luís Capucha (ISCTE, Lisbon)- will meet during the Evora Seminar in order to establish the guidelines for their activities within the following months. Yet we must insist in the use of the virtual forums created for the working groups. We should not forget that our network has and will have to be developed within a virtual environment, the project finances not allowing to have many personal meetings during the whole period covered. Virtual forums for each working group and discussion boards have been created as an instrument to open up dialogues, present proposals, discuss initiatives and prepare papers to be presented as reports coming from discussion and collaboration within the network. Dialogue among those partners involved in the working groups before the seminar will be an important tool to prepare the meeting which will be held in Evora.
Please remember how to use the forums system by reading Bulletin 3.
Best wishes,
Laurinda Abreu
